Bob Leach – Bob Leach’s love for racing began at an early age after his father started building racecars in the early 60s. He would help in the body shop, maintaining the cars as well and began racing at the age of 21. Leach’s first race was in a 1955 Chevy at Sugar Bowl Speedway and this sparked an urge to compete. 

Bob mainly drove cars they built at Tucker Body Shop. At first he drove a Skeeter, then he moved into a 1955 Chevy, and lastly drove their Famous #21 1964 Chevelle. He did drive a Chevy for Jerry Wilson at the Peach Bowl the last couple of years the track was open, winning a number of races along with the Track Championship in 1971 (the last year the Peach Bowl was open). Bob won 11 straight races at Banks County Speedway in their 1955 Chevy.

Bob was the NASCAR Late Model High Point Champion at Jefco Speedway in 1968 and was also NASCAR Late Model High Point Champion at Middle GA Raceway in Byron, GA in 1967, 1969 and 1970. Leach competed and won races at Smokey Mountain Raceway (Maryville, TN), Savannah, GA, Greenville Pickens, SC, New Smyrna Beach, FL, Augusta Speedway (Augusta, GA), and Athens Speedway (Athens, GA). It is believed he won close to 180 races in his years as a driver.

“Bob’s cars that he raced were beautiful. He was a good driver and I remember him racing in Jefferson and Dixie Speedways – when it was paved -, and a few other tracks. As I was starting my racing career, he was finishing his,” says Ronnie Sanders.
