Calvin Byrd – President –

Scott Adams – Treasurer – was born in Cincinnati and raised in Central Indiana. He graduated from Indiana University with a BS in Marketing. He was married for 58 years, has 3 children and 5 grandchildren.

He worked in the healthcare industry for 42 years focused primarily on long range planning, new business development, medical device design and development and formation and funding of medical device startups.

He began his business career in 1967 with American Hospital Supply Corporation in business planning and new business development. In 1973 he moved to Abbott Laboratories where he managed the Intravenous products business and launched their electronic IV pump.

In 1980 he became President of General Medical, a medical products distributor with 62 locations. In 1990 Scott moved to the Northern California as the General Manager of Thomas J. Fogarty MD Engineering where he managed a group of engineers focused on medical device development which were either licensed or resulted in the formation of startup companies funded by venture capital funds.

In 1995 Scott became President of Careline, the 2nd largest Emergency Medical Service company. The company was sold in late 1996. In 1997 he moved back to manage Fogarty Engineering and Thomas J. Fogarty winery.

Scott retired and moved to Georgia in 2004. He currently sits on the Board of Atlanta Catheter Therapeutics.

Faye Abercrombie – Secretary – After serving 18 years as Dawsonville’s Postmaster, Faye Abercrombie has focused her energy in volunteering with Georgia Racing Hall of Fame since 2003. A 4th generation Dawson County native who is now welcoming the 7th generation, she is a passionate preserver of local history.

Mike Eason – Currently the Mayor of the City of Dawsonville serving since December, 2017, Mike served as an Investigator and Supervisor with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. He has a broad spectrum of expertise and experience in conducting and managing intelligence operations, drug enforcement and criminal investigations including crimes of violence, property loss, financial and white-collar crimes. Mike spent a total of twenty-eight years in law enforcement agency management. For over twelve years he managed task force operations with multiple levels of law enforcement participation, including local, state and federal agencies. As a Special Agent in Charge at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, he served in many investigative and management positions including Narcotics, Medicaid Fraud, Public Corruption, Organized Crime, Major Case and many special assignments to major incidents and events statewide. He has experience in planning and managing Special Events – he developed the plans and directed the state’s security function during the 1988 Democratic National Convention in Atlanta.

Also he developed the plans and managed the state’s law enforcement role in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. During the operational period of the Olympic Games, he coordinated and directed the activities of thousands of state law enforcement officers, military personnel, local officers and federal officers assigned to the event. Mike served as a consultant to the New South Wales Police in law enforcement planning for the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. Additionally he served as a Consultant to the Utah Olympic Public Safety Command in issues related to security and law enforcement for the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Games. He served as a Deputy State Inspector General where he assisted in organizing and establishing a new function for the State of Georgia, the Office of the State Inspector General, including hiring staff, acquiring equipment and office space, writing guidelines and conducting the first-ever Inspector General investigations for the State of Georgia.

James Bearden – is a life-long racing fan and resident of Dawson County. A licensed funeral director and insurance agent, he serves as the Vice President of Bearden Funeral Home in Dawsonville. James also owns and operates Dawsonville Monuments and has served with the Georgia Funeral Directors Association and Dawson County Chamber of Commerce. He and his wife, Alivia, have a son, Wade, and are active members of Bethel Baptist Church in Dawsonville.

Cheryl Capwell – joined the Board of Directors for Dawsonville History Museum, Inc. in January 2022. She has been a motorsports enthusiast for over 30 years. Starting as a Nascar fan in her teens, over the years, her and her husband developed a strong passion for racing, both spectating and participating in. In 2018 she became a Member at Atlanta Motorsports Park both at their main track and the karting track. Shortly after becoming a member at AMP, she went on to complete a 3 day Racing School, qualified for a SCCA Racing License and completed a Kart Racing School as well. She is a very active member at the motorsports park, travels and participates in HPDE track days at tracks all over the East Coast and is an avid Nascar and F1 fan. She brings with her over 20 years of experience in marketing, social media and events planning. She has served for 3 years on her Homeowners Association as the Social Director & Events Coordinator. She is currently an entrepreneur, running her own business since 2010 and currently also serves as a Board Member at Atlanta Motorsports Park. Prior to being elected as a Board Member at AMP in 2020, she served two years on the Social Events Committee at AMP. She discovered the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame in 2021, where she quickly fell in love with the museum and started volunteering for events. She looks forward to serving on the Dawsonville History Museum, Inc board, where she hopes she can use her experience to help with networking and promoting in the motorsports industry, events planning and fundraising.

Beverly Banister – I am currently the City Clerk for the City of Dawsonville. I have enjoyed my role with local government since 2015 and utilize my core values of integrity, honesty and commitment when serving the citizens and fellow employees of the City. I have received the Georgia Certified Clerk certificate from the University of Georgia and am currently pursuing certification in the Master’s Education Management Development Program. On a personal note, I was born and raised in New Jersey but married a Dawsonville native – who has taught me much about racing. We have lived in Dawsonville since 2014. I have two grown children who live in Maryland and Pennsylvania and I enjoy vacationing with my family, snuggling with my four chihuahuas, playing disc golf, hiking, reading and knitting.

David Sosebee – is the oldest son of pioneer stock car racer and Inaugural Inductee to the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame, Gober Sosebee. David grew up going to races with his father and spending time in the pits and his father’s garage. When David was old enough to drive, he too wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps. In addition to helping the Elliott brothers in their small racing endeavor in the early days, David would briefly compete in short tracks of the area and later made numerous starts in ARCA and Winston Cup Competition throughout the 1980’s. Following his racing endeavor’s, Sosebee worked in the R&D department for Volvo trucks for several years before opening up Cherokee Sand in Dahlonega Ga in 1992, of which he still works everyday. David has been involved with the Hall of Fame since it’s opening in 2002 and continues to offer his vast knowledge of the sport from his father’s early history and beyond.

Cody Dinsmore – is a lifelong racefan and has been involved with the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame since 2008 as a volunteer at the age of 11. He joined the Board of Directors in 2020, as well as managing the GRHOF Social Media accounts. Cody immensely enjoys the history of the sport, particularly the early days of stock car racing and it’s Dawsonville roots. He enjoys educating others on the topic and was even a guest historian on the Middle Georgia Raceway episode of Season 1 of Lost Speedways. He was honored as the GRHOF Volunteer of the Year in 2012, and 13′ as well as the Dawson County Chamber of Commerce’s Volunteer of the Year in 2020.

Dustin Heard – Joined the Dawsonville History Museum, Inc. board in January 2022 and a lifelong resident of North Forsyth and Dawson County. Currently serves as the Tourism Director for the Dawson County Chamber of Commerce and Office of Tourism Development. Class of 2014 graduate of Leadership Dawson, an active Board Member for the Northeast Georgia Mountains Travel Association since 2019, Team Director for the Dawson County Youth Mountain Bike Team, and member of the Dawson County Historical Society.
