
Mike Helton – Hampton, GA – Mike Helton has been an influential player in the NASCAR industry for quite a number of years.
From his early experiences working events at his home track in Bristol, Tennessee to his time at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Talladega Superspeedway, International Speedway Corporation and finally NASCAR, Helton has exhibited a burning passion and a professional approach to the things he undertakes.
As for his career time in Georgia, Helton joined the staff at Atlanta Motor Speedway (then Atlanta International Raceway) in early 1980. Officially, his duties were to run the track’s Public Relations Department, but he was a huge part of all aspects of the track’s operation. As a response to his over and above efforts Helton was rewarded with a promotion to the position of General Manager in 1983 and he held this position until the time of his departure in 1986.
Many credit the positive growth of AIR during Helton’s tenure to his positive leadership.
In addition to his work at the track, part of his off time was spent racing his dirt car at Senoia Speedway.
Helton is highly respected and admired throughout the NASCAR community. He is known as an outstanding leader, friend, communicator and confidant as well as a major influencer in NASCAR’s success.
Helton has been a Senior NASCAR official for decades and still maintains home in Hampton.
