An engineer with the Georgia Railroad for 40 years, Alf Knight’s passion was racing. Along with his wife Madeline, the two combined energy and teamwork to promote racing prior to NASCAR days, then with the opening of the Atlanta International Raceway in 1960, every stockholder turned to Knight to make their dreams and money to realities. For 20 years Alf labored through the lean years at A.I.R. Noted former Georgia Governor Jimmy Carter, “Without Alf Knight, the facility there today (Atlanta Motor Speedway) would not be in existence.”
